Steve Bannon Files Desperate Motion To Avoid Going To Jail

(NewsReady.com) – Steve Bannon was once the executive chairman of Breitbart News. He then went on to work for former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and serve in the White House. Now, he’s trying to stay out of prison.

Federal Judge Carl J. Nichols ordered Bannon to report to prison on July 1. The judge’s decision came after a three-judge panel for the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld the former White House chief strategist’s contempt of Congress conviction last month.

On Tuesday, June 11, Bannon’s attorneys filed an emergency motion to the same court of appeals, asking for his sentence to be delayed “pending the conclusion of his appeals, including to the Supreme Court.” The conservative podcast host also asked the court to respond to his request by June 18, so that he would have enough time to petition the Supreme Court if necessary.

The filing claims the government wants to jail Bannon “for the four-month period leading up to the November election,” while at the same time Americans are going to seek him out to get “information on important campaign issues.” The attorneys claimed the prison sentence would prohibit their client from “serving as a meaningful advisor in the ongoing national campaign.”

This isn’t the first time Bannon has been in trouble. Before former President Trump left office in 2021, he pardoned his former advisor, who was charged with crimes related to a scheme to defraud Conservatives who wanted to build a wall at the southern border. Brian Kolfage, the other defendant in the case, received a four-year prison sentence.

Trump is furious that Bannon is scheduled to report to prison in July. In a post on Truth Social, the former POTUS called it a “Total and Complete American Tragedy” that he was going to be locked up. Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said that he thinks Republicans should declare the January 6 Committee that Bannon did not respond to “illegitimate” to try to keep him out of prison.

For now, Bannon will have to wait to hear what the appeals court has to say.
